About the Program

The Health Griots program brings together African American men, cancer survivors and co-survivors, healthcare providers and professionals to reduce the risk of cancer through four areas of focus:

  1. Preventive care
  2. Healthy eating
  3. Active living
  4. Tobacco-free living

The programming is designed to promote cancer awareness and early detection – both of which play a major role in the prevention and successful treatment of cancer – by engaging men in healthy dialogue that removes the stigma and fear often associated with cancer and helping them recognize early signs and symptoms.

30% of cancer cases could be prevented by modifying lifestyle or addressing the risk factors.
